This weekend is a friend graduation party and 19th Birthday party, kinda a big deal for a girl. So I decided to make her a watercolor book. Shes very much into drawing and has some serious talent, and I think she would do wonderful in watercolors.
The book is made from Opus Student Watercolor paper: 140 lbs, machine-made with no deckle edges, and a lightly textured cold pressed surface. Its covered in Washi(?) paper and then painted black, then that is covered with Lumiere 566 Metallic Russet (I absolutely LOVE this paint, I really wish the color went with everything), the it is gold Rub N Buffed. Of course before I did all that I laid in the stones. The edges are cut from leather, no clue what kind.
I am hoping to finish it tomorrow, and when I do I will post it.

Early Spring Cleaning of The Vortex!
So I decided about a week ago to clean the whole house and throw away a bunch of stuff (as told in previous post) you know, spring cleaning. Since it wasn't snowy any longer and looked like winter was over. But oh no low and behold the day I finished everything it snowed...all day....I'm so very not impressed, but hey what are you gonna do, but now at least I have a fancy, clean, simplistic organized home!

Jackalopes and Mushrooms ... Oh My!
So I have a few pictures to post today (Iam looking to building a little light box and going to teach myself some better photography)
First up is my little drawing from the other day,I ended up messing the mushroom up horribly so I'm gonna still finish it, colors, shades, details, but do it all loosely and the re-do it better (hopefully) on some dedicated watercolour paper. Wish me luch!
This is just a picture of my new (and working out wonderfully) desk layout. I recently spent five days going though the house, and all my art stuff getting rid of anything that I have not used in the last 6months. I ended up donating a large bin of brand new children friendly art supplies and some brand new toys and supplies to the adorable family across the hall. I'm pretty sure they have three or more kids, she seems pretty happy when I gave it to her. Yay! Oh and there is another recent drawing in progress on my desk.
I neglected to take a 'before' picture so I settled on putting it together half done so you can get a sense on what I changed. The whole thing was that ugly brown on the drawers. I painted them mahogany and glazed each piece in protective covering, except the right door, it needs one more coat of paint then three layers of the sealant. The walls and drawers were a dirty white, so I ripped those suckers out and am lining them with a nice butterfly printed canvas from Michaels. And I am also gold Rub N' Buffing all the little embellishments! I will post a finished picture, which should be this weekend, crossing fingers.
Thanks for looking! See you soon!

Back From a Long Hiatus
So I ran away from the blog for a bit, mainly cause its been a crappy winter for being productive. But Christmas is over so now I feel more productive. I was working on a picture last night and thought that I should upload it so here it is. Just the beginning of outlining. Will update as I go along.

Awesome Friday Finds
I dragged Chris out for some thrift store shopping and breakfast and I found these awesome little goodies!
Although I cant yet find out how old they are, I will soon. They are Pelikan Drawing Ink Glass bottles. I have Sepia, Light Green, Raw Sienna and Burnt Sienna. All I know about them so far is that they are made in Germany, and the bottles were made by Gunther Wagner. They are pretty darn awesome, and were only a dollar each. I think they will look good on my window still after I clean them up a bit.
If you have any information on these I would really appreciate your knowledge lol

Daily EDM Challenge - A Shoe!
I started my EDM daily challenge today because I have absolutely no energy to do it last night ( even though it takes next to nothing to do) on account of the fact that I'm slightly sick right now. So that means hopefully I'll have two posts today, yesterday's and today.
First up is my shoe. I don't have very many "girl" shoes and the ones I do have are a little extreme. I'll let you in on a little secret though....I don't ever wear said shoes, I just buy them and keep them around my room cause they look pretty, weird I know but it keeps me happy lol.
So I did my shoe, which is black, and up until today the black on my watercolour palette has not been touched at all. Doing this has showed me that I really need to play with my black more to get the shades and whatnot down. A great learning experience for my first EDM!
Hats off to Danny Gregory who is my major inspiration to keep drawing and to have started this challenge. I really admire the guy. Hop on over to his blog to see what he's all about--

Something Blue!
(all images are from Pintrest)
I'm feeling a bit under the weather today so I figured I would post some pretty blue pictures to make me feel a little better. Don't you love the eyes on the last one? Makes me wanna paint it!
I wish those little blue birds would come to my bird feeder!
